The Community Service Officer is an integral member of the Public Safety Team, working in both the Police Division and the Fire Division. Their primary job is to enforce municipal codes, penal codes, and vehicle codes. Each Community Service Officer attends training in Laws of Arrest, 832 P.C. which allows them to conduct the enforcement by issuing citations and/or writing a criminal complaint to the District Attorney's Office. The Community Service Officer also enforces animal regulations and collects dead, abandoned, or abused animals, as well as dogs running free in the city. Additional duties include working in the Fire Division doing data entry and equipment procurement and equipment maintenance. Lastly, the Community Service Officer can choose to take on collateral duties and work in the communication center or serving as a member of the Evidence Collection Team. The Community Service Officer has proved to be a valuable position and a great pool for this department to draw from when looking for future Public Safety Officers.
