Hazardous Materials Response
Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety maintains a
Level Two Hazardous Materials Response Team. This team, consisting of
12 members of the department have personnel trained to Technician and
Specialist levels and respond with a mobile command vehicle and
completely equipped Hazardous Materials Response Trailer.
The primary mission of the HazMat Team is to render
safe an immediate area and threat. Scenes are then turned over to the
owner and a registered hazardous materials cleanup contractor to
correct any environmental damage. This activity will be monitored by
our staff.
Hazardous Materials
Hazardous Materials inspections in the City of Rohnert
Park are done by The Sonoma County Department of Emergency
Services. This County department has the enforcement jurisdiction for
hazardous materials use in commercial occupancies within Rohnert Park.
Their department conducts compliance inspection within the City limits.
If a business within the City has hazardous materials that they use or
store in excess of the exempt amounts, or if a business generates a
waste, they must participate in the Sonoma County Hazardous Materials
program. Regardless of the need to participate in the County program, a
business within the City is still required to comply with all Uniform
Fire Code requirements enforced by the Department of Public Safety.
Whenever possible, the two departments conduct joint inspections to
allow for uniform enforcement.
The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety inspects
for proper use and storage requirements for all businesses that store
hazardous materials.
