The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety currently
has detectives assigned to the Investigations Bureau. These are Public
safety Officers who have been chosen to work in full-time investigative
assignments. Of these Detectives, one is assigned to the Sonoma County
Narcotics Task Force, one is assigned to the MAGNET gang enforcement
team, and four are assigned as generalist investigators. A Sergeant and
Secretary are also assigned to the bureau.
The Detectives investigate a spectrum of crimes ranging
from annoying phone calls, to heinous felonies such as homicide and
rape. One Detective specializes in the investigation of child abuse and
sexual assault, while the other three focus on crimes against persons
and property theft crimes.
The Investigations Bureau plays an important role in
case investigations, and works closely with patrol personnel, and other
law enforcement agencies to exchange information and to achieve results.
The Bureau also works closely with the District
Attorney's Office to insure that investigation of all cases is thorough
and, achieve the goal of successful prosecution of the guilty.
As with any aspect of Public Safety, training and
experience is paramount for a Detective. The bureau continuously seeks
training opportunities to increase the knowledge and skills of our
detectives. Officers assigned as detectives receive training and
certification from the Robert Pressley Institute of Criminal
Investigation, which is not only job specific, but also considered to
be prestigious in the investigations community.
