The Department utilizes a significant number of volunteers. Aside from the traditional fire volunteer and the police reserve officer, the Department also has a PSA program. This category of volunteer employee was adopted to fill a need for both the Department and the community.

A PSA is a non-sworn position, requiring only that the volunteer be of good moral character and able to pass a background investigation. These volunteers are utilized in numerous non-hazardous tasks with the Department, such as; traffic control, parking enforcement, security at fire and crime scenes, and bike patrol. They may also drive department vehicles acting as extra eyes and ears for the Department and community.
