Description
The two purposes of the sewer system in Rohnert Park
are the (a) collection of wastewater (b) its transport to a treatment
facility.
The Sub-regional Water Reclamation System of Santa Rosa treats Rohnert Parks Wastewater.
The collection system's underground networks of pipes
range in size from 6 inch to 42 inches in diameter and its 120 miles is
buried under the streets. Every 350 feet there are access holes to
maintain the lines and to monitor the system. From the most distant
locations in the system the wastewater takes two hours to get to the
central collection point, which are the pump stations. From the pump
stations the wastewater is then routed to the treatment facility on
Llano road.
During a 24-hour period the amount of wastewater coming
in fluctuates from 1 to 7 million gallons per day. The peak flows are
during the midmorning and the early evening. The average dry weather
wastewater flows are 3.5.mgd
Industrial Waste
The City of Santa Rosa Industrial Waste Department
regulates all businesses, which dispose waste other than the typical
bathroom waste. Permits are required and compliance with local codes
for proper handling of all hazardous waste is strictly monitored. The
inspectors regularly sample downstream industrial facilities and
respond to reports of unusual activities.

Water Reuse
Rohnert Park has always been at the forefront of
developing water reuse programs. Instead of using water from our
drinking supply Rohnert Park uses reclaimed water to irrigate
landscaping in the streets, parks and the golf courses. Using this
highly treated water for reuse saves millions of gallons of drinking
water per year.
Rohnert Park leads the nation in low flush toilet
installations. This aggressive program has reduced potable water usage
by approximately 10,000 gallons per day.
