City-owned sidewalks and paths are maintained and
inspected by the Public Works Streets Division. Uneven sidewalk
sections caused by subsidence, concrete expansion, or tree root growth
are promptly repaired when discovered. If temporary repairs are made
with asphaltic material, either City personnel or a private contractor
replaces the damaged section of sidewalk, usually within one year,
depending upon availability of funding.
Asphalt paths are maintained and repaired in the same
manner as streets and roadways with asphalt patching material. When
necessary, severely damaged sections of asphalt paths are replaced or
overlaid.
Sidewalk and path inspections are conducted throughout
the year in an attempt to minimize hazardous conditions to pedestrian
traffic. Despite our efforts, trees grow and sidewalks move, causing
new, undetected hazards. Reports of uneven sidewalk edges by the public
are greatly appreciated.
