Measure M Funds Street Slurry Seal Project Print E-mail
As part of its ongoing effort to maintain and upgrade roadways, the City of Rohnert Park Department of Public Works/Engineering Division is applying a Slurry Seal to various City streets.

This project is funded by Measure M, the transportation plan and quarter-cent sales tax sales tax increase approved by 67% of Sonoma County voters in 2004. The Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA) was instrumental in the passage of Measure M. The SCTA is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors one from each of Sonoma County's nine cities and three from the County Board of Supervisors. The SCTA is the countywide transportation planning agency and administers the quarter-cent sales tax for transportation purposes.

This slurry seal project will protect and extend the life of the asphalt pavement. Slurry seal is an emulsion (mixture) of oil, water, surfactant, latex, and aggregate. It helps maintain the integrity of the roadway, smooth out the road surface, and acts as a water repellent cap.

The project will extend from July through the end of August. Affected residents will be notified by mail in advance of the work. The Contractor will again notify residents 48 hours prior to construction by posting No Parking/No Driving signs on the street.

Construction activity will generally take place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. If need be, weekend work on arterial streets will generally occur between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Please note that existing parking restrictions will be enforced in the affected areas.

During construction:

  • Please keep children and pets away from the construction.
  • Do not run water onto the street the night before or during the application.
  • Please adhere to the No Parking notices.
  • Driving on the Slurry Seal before it has properly cured will damage the integrity of the surface, and may damage the vehicle's paint.
  • On extremely hot days after a recent Slurry Seal application, it is possible to leave marks in the surface. Please avoid steering your vehicle while stopped, as well as quick starts and stops during the first few weeks after the application.
