This frantically paced romp spins around Pseudolus, a slave in Rome, who has just one wish - to be free. When his master and mistress leave for the day he discovers his young master, Hero, has fallen in love with Phillia, a virgin in the house of Lycus, a slave dealer specializing in beautiful women. Seizing the opportunity, Pseudolus strikes a bargain with Hero. Pseudolus gets his freedom if he can procure Phillia for Hero.
Of course, things are never that simple in a musical comedy.
The plan begins to unravel quickly when Miles Gloriosus, the Roman General to whom Phillia is promised, arrives to claim his virgin bride. To complicate matters further, Pseudolus' master and mistress return unexpectedly. Bedlam ensues with slamming doors, mistaken identity, characters disguising themselves as one another - all the classic elements of farce, burlesque and modern musical comedy rolled into one to produce a laugh-filled, ludicrous, and lusty show that is considered by many to be the funniest musical ever written for the stage.
