Mark Hendersen serves as the Director of Public Works for the City of Rohnert Park, bringing more than 25 years of municipal water and wastewater operations experience to the role. He was appointed permanent Director in February 2026 after serving on an interim basis, following a decade of leadership within the City’s Public Works Department.

Prior to his appointment, Mark served for 10 years as Operations Manager overseeing the Fleet and Utilities Division. In that capacity, he provided operational leadership for critical infrastructure systems that support the health, safety, and quality of life of the Rohnert Park community.

Mark currently serves as the City’s designated Chief Water System Operator, as required by the State of California. He holds a State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade IV certification, a Water Treatment Operator Grade III certification, and an American Water Works Association Cross-Connection Specialist certification. His technical expertise and regulatory knowledge support the City’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality water services.

As Director, Mark oversees a comprehensive Public Works portfolio that includes streets, water, sewer, stormwater, parks, City facilities, fleet operations, sustainability initiatives, and refuse and recycling services. Under his leadership, engineering services were consolidated into the Public Works Department to strengthen oversight, improve coordination, and enhance customer service through streamlined review processes and clearer lines of responsibility.

Mark is recognized for his steady leadership, deep institutional knowledge, and long-term perspective on infrastructure stewardship. He is committed to maintaining essential services responsibly and transparently while planning for the City’s future growth and resilience.
