Traffic Signal Improvements - East Cotati Avenue and Bodway Parkway

Last week, the intersection of East Cotati Avenue and Bodway Parkway received a signal timing improvement by shortening the Vehicle Extension times. A Vehicle Extension, also known as gap time, uses video detection to sense vehicles that are approaching a green light but are still 150 feet or so away from the stop bar. It then extends green times so that vehicle can make it all the way through the intersection without turning red. If the gap time is too long, however, other vehicles at other legs of the intersection may feel like they are waiting while no cars are going through, and the gap time can be adjusted to create a faster response to turn that leg red and serve vehicles in other legs of the intersection quicker. www.rpcity.org/signals
