How the Vehicle Detection System Works

First, it DOES NOT record and store video of the intersection. It DOES provide live feed only for car detection to help assist the controller with traffic flow through the intersection. What this means is the video cameras are used to detect cars at each leg of the intersection. When cars are detected, the video camera sends a signal instantly to the traffic controller letting it know that leg has traffic waiting, and it needs to be served with a green light. If there are no cars waiting (i.e. the camera does not detect any cars) at that leg of an intersection, the controller knows it does not need to serve that leg with a green light. So, the video camera’s only purpose is vehicle detection so it can send signals to the traffic controller, which controls which legs the intersection serves and for how long. It does not store video because its function is real time car detection to assist the controller with traffic flow through the intersection.
