SB-1Measure M

Southwest and Commerce Boulevard Roundabout Project

Updated Week of May 30, 2022

Construction Updates:

As of Tuesday, May 17, 2022 the roundabout is open! There will be some on-going construction activities over the next several weeks, including green striping for the bicycle facilities. Please continue to drive with caution in the area.

Roundabout Ribbon Cutting Celebration:

The City would like to thank everyone who attended the Southwest and Commerce Boulevard Roundabout Ribbon Cutting Celebration on May 25, 2022. The official opening of this long-awaited project is here, providing an environmentally friendly improvement to pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles. We would like to thank our City staff and contractors for bringing the project to completion two months ahead of schedule and our businesses and residents for their patience during construction. Please see videos of the event here:

Roundabout Ribbon Cutting
How to Navigate a Roundabout:
  1. Slow down as you approach the intersection
  2. Yield to pedestrians and bicyclists crossing the road
  3. Follow instructions of surrounding signage or pavement markers prohibiting certain movements
  4. When there is a large enough gap in the vehicles for you to merge safely, enter the roundabout moving counter-clockwise.

California's "Basic Speed Law" says you can never drive faster than is safe for current conditions. The Southwest and Commerce Boulevard intersection has an advisory speed limit of 15mph. As our residents acclimate themselves to the roundabout, we encourage drivers to be extra mindful of speed, signage, pedestrians, and other vehicles. For more on rules of the road, you can review the California's Driver Handbook.

While construction of the roundabout is intended to increase flow, traffic might still occur. In this case, follow the basic speed law, and decrease your speed accordingly. However, the City overall expects to see a notable reduction in congestion in the surrounding area. In addition, a decrease in the emissions associated with traditional intersections.

Please see the short video here for instructions and examples of how to drive through the City's first roundabout.

What:

The construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Southwest and Commerce Boulevards is replacing the old three-way stop. The project increases safety for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and public transit while improving traffic flow, decreasing travel times, and reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, the project included improvements to the neighborhood's sewer capacity.

When:

The project began on January 4, 2022, and is open to traffic on May 17, 2022. There will be some on-going construction activities over the next several weeks, including green striping for the bicycle facilities. Please continue to drive with caution in the area. The City appreciates the community's patience and flexibility of this important traffic facility.

Rohnert Park Road Improvements Update for Week of October 17, 2022:

Keiser Avenue Improvements

The punch-list sidewalk concrete and landscaping work items are largely completed. Final preparations are now being made to open the road to full public access.

As the project nears completion, please continue to watch for work crews, traffic control signage and flaggers, equipment, and trucks.

Schedule
The opening of Keiser Avenue to public traffic is anticipated for sometime in early fall, 2022. We will continue to update the timing of the road reopening as progress is made.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to provide a smoother, safer roadway.
